What is Canine Hoopers?
Canine Hoopers is a fast-growing, inclusive activity that's perfect for dogs of all ages, sizes, and abilities. Imagine agility, but with a twist that makes it accessible and enjoyable for every dog. In Canine Hoopers, dogs navigate a course consisting of hoops, tunnels, and barrels. Unlike traditional agility, there are no jumps or tight turns, which makes it a low-impact, high-fun activity that's easy on your dog's joints.
One of the unique features of Hoopers is that it’s a distance handling activity. This means that handlers guide their dogs through the course using verbal cues and body language, often from a stationary position or at a walking pace. No running is required from the handler, making it an ideal sport for those who have no desire to run or who may have physical limitations.
Hoopers is all about flow and rhythm, promoting smooth, continuous movement. This makes it an excellent way to improve your dog's coordination and confidence. The best part? It's just as much fun for the handlers as it is for the dogs! Handlers guide their dogs through the course using verbal cues and body language, enhancing communication and teamwork.

The benefits of Canine Hoopers
Basic Obedience
Canine Hoopers is not just a fun activity; it's also a great way to reinforce basic obedience skills. The distance handling aspect requires dogs to respond to commands promptly and accurately, which strengthens their obedience training. Your dog will learn to follow your cues even when you're not right by their side, enhancing their overall responsiveness and discipline.
Training
Training for Canine Hoopers is a structured yet flexible process. Beginners start with the basics, understanding distance handling and flatwork as well as building value for equipment. As you and your dog progress, the courses become more complex, and the challenges increase.
Competing at Canine Hoopers brings an added level of excitement and achievement but is not compulsory. Competitions are friendly and supportive, focusing on fun and participation rather than just winning.
If competing isn't for you we offer a skills progression system so you can still celebrate your training achievements.
Classes
Our Canine Hoopers classes are structured to cater to all skill levels. Each session typically lasts 50 mins, with classes held weekly. We keep our group sizes small to ensure individual attention and a supportive learning environment. Participants should bring their dog's favourite treats & toys and a positive attitude! We offer different levels of classes, from beginners to advanced, allowing you and your dog to progress at your own pace. Whether you're looking to enjoy a new activity together or aim to compete, we have the right class for you.
